Living History Encampment & Activities

at Children of Gettysburg 1863®

Gettysburg, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2022)—On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29 and 30, 2022, visitors to Gettysburg’s interactive children’s history museum can interact with living historians from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Gettysburg Foundation is pleased to host the 150^th PA Bucktails at Children of Gettysburg 1863®, located at 451 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Living historians representing both soldiers and women portraying the home front will encamp on the lawn at the children’s history museum. Visitors are invited to join us for hands-on history with “drilling practice” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the opportunity to “enlist” in the 150^th PA Bucktails regiment and learn the daily drill of a soldier.

The 150^th PA Bucktails are a Civil War reenactment group founded in 1992. For the past 30 years, the 150^th PA Bucktails have participated in various national and local reenactments in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Virginia. Local schools in Northwestern Pennsylvania invite the reenactors to educate and provide hands-on learning to students in grades 5-7.

The living history encampment at Children of Gettysburg 1863® offers free activities open to the public.

Ticket holders to Children of Gettysburg 1863® can experience hands-on history through the stories of children, teens and young adults who lived in and near Gettysburg during and after the 1863 battle. Designed for families and groups with children in grades K-5, the interactive adventure takes guests on a journey through galleries of interactive exhibits and experiences that provide a history-based setting for creativity, discovery and learning.
